FM firm bolsters Scottish expansion with flurry of contract wins

A fast-growing facilities management firm has strengthened its presence in Scotland with a flurry of new contract wins as it aims to banish the industry’s sub-contracting model.

Diamond Facilities Support has landed agreements to service the Scottish-based properties of nursery chain Busy Bees, waste management firm Biffa, and gym company Pure Gym– which between them make up an additional 90 Scottish sites – generating in excess of c.£1.5m worth of additional annual turnover from north of the border.

The firm’s ability to provide a consistent level of service from its own in-house and multi-skilled engineers for 90 per cent of its services is behind the success, say company bosses, as organisations – especially in Scotland – struggle to find consistent service levels for the maintenance of their sites from sub-contractors.

Diamond Facilities Support is part of parent company Coat Facilities Group Limited, which has an annual turnover of £16 million and a 200-strong workforce.

Coat Facilities Group was launched in January 2024 by the co-founders of Diamond Facilities Support – Adam Atkins and Helen Cooper – to enable the duo to purchase a 100 per cent shareholding in Diamond ten years on from starting the business together from scratch.

Coat Facilities Group also owns drainage business Jet Through, roofing firm Nationwide Roofing Repairs, cleaning business Nationwide Property Clean and Sanctuary Fire & Security.

Adam Atkins, Group Chief Executive at Coat Facilities Group Limited, said: “We know from talking to many Scottish businesses that they have traditionally had to rely on engineers from different third-party companies for emergency responses and scheduled maintenance, which only breeds unreliability and inconsistency, and our ability to tear up this rule book by offering a complete in-house offering is helping to drive our growth.

“This inconsistency of service tends to happen in more rural locations where there is a smaller talent pool of tradespeople, but through our commitment to career development and competitive pay, we are helping to overcome this.

“Our direct labour approach has also been bolstered by a recent £150,000 investment in our own flexible web portal management system that is compatible with any other computer aided Facilities Management system, enabling our engineers to provide real-time updates to clients to enhance our customer reviews even further.

“Landing contracts for regional arms of major brands such as Busy Bees, Biffa, and Pure Gym complement others we work for in Scotland such as Nationwide Platforms, Gusto, Cote, Menzies, We Are With You, We Buy Any Car, Buzz Bingo, Randstad, DPD and Air Hop.

“This growth vindicates our decision to focus on offering a direct labour approach – and working with big name brands provides a solid launchpad for us to grow even further in the future and improve.”

The Birth of COAT

A new parent company called Coat Facilities Group Limited has been formed as part of the evolution of Diamond Facilities Support and its increased focus on offering direct labour.

Diamond Facilities Support was initially co-founded by Adam Atkins and Helen Cooper in 2010 who had organically grown the firm’s turnover to £16 million and 200 staff over a 14-year period, before eventually creating parent company Coat Facilities Group Limited in January 2024 to allow them to purchase a 100 per cent shareholding in Diamond Facilities Support.

Other businesses created by Adam and Helen alongside Diamond in recent years also make up Coat Facilities Group Limited, and include drainage business Jet Through, roofing firm Nationwide Roofing Repairs, cleaning business Nationwide Property Clean and Sanctuary Fire & Security.

Adam Atkins, Group Chief Executive at Coat Facilities Group Limited, said: “As a group of businesses our unique selling point is being able to offer a consistently high level of service due to our joined-up, in-house capabilities – and the creation of Coat Facilities Group Limited symbolises this.

“The Coat Facilities Group website – www.coatfacilitiesgroup.com – also has a key role to play in demonstrating to clients the broad range of services we can offer across reactive and scheduled maintenance, through to roofing, fire and security, and cleaning.

“As a business we are on a long-term journey of growth, with ambitions to hit £30 million turnover by 2027.”

Diamond Facilities Support re-brands with the strap line ‘Brilliance through Direct Labour’

A fast-growing facilities management firm has landed recognition for its ongoing expansion as it aims to become the UK’s leading FM Group providing direct labour amid ongoing investment.

Diamond Facilities Support and its parent company Coat Facilities Group – which are headquartered at Birmingham Business Park in the Midlands – have been named in the UK Fast Growth Index for 2024 and are included in the top 50 fastest growing businesses in the Midlands, and will be ranked among the top 350 fastest growing businesses nationally – a significant achievement out of over 5.6 million businesses nationwide.

Annual revenues have increased on average 27 per cent every year since 2020 for the £16 million turnover FM group, and they have also grown their 200-strong workforce by a similar amount.

More than £150,000 has been invested in Diamond’s internally-developed IT management system that allows the Group’s own engineers to provide real-time updates on any client’s own computer aided facility management system.

Around £20,000 has also been invested in new branding for around 80 of Diamond’s vans across the UK, as well as its digital channels to drive home their direct labour approach.

There are also plans to recruit at least an extra 15 engineers before the end of the year as it bids to become the leading FM business using its own people to carry out all of its tasks for clients.

Around 90 per cent of the Group’s services are now delivered in-house, as the Group looks to hit £30 million of annual turnover by 2027.

Coat Facilities Group Limited – the parent company created by co-founders Adam Atkins and Helen Cooper to purchase a 100 per cent share in Diamond Facilities Support in January – also owns 100 per cent of drainage business Jet Through, roofing firm Nationwide Roofing Repairs, cleaning business Nationwide Property Clean and Sanctuary Fire & Security, and FM specialist product supply brand Purcho.

Adam Atkins, Group Chief Executive at Coat Facilities Group Limited, said: “The FM industry’s achilles heel has always centred around not being able to provide a consistent, in-house service to clients with an ability for great updates – and our overarching aim is to overcome this.

“We’ve been making great strides in changing this over a number of years – as our growth and the development of the Group has been totally organic, and down to our dedication to providing services through direct labour and operating with our own in-house web portal management system.

“Having our own in-house system has become more and more important as the use of client portals, client engineer apps and real-time client updates have started to make a real difference to customer satisfaction and the volume of work received as a contractor,

“The fact that our in-house web portal management system can link quickly and efficiently with any other computer aided facility management system due to us being in complete control of the software is unique to Diamond, and enables us to maximise the advantages of providing direct labour and real-time updates.

“Currently more than 50 per cent of our referrals come from a positive experience a customer has received from one of our people, and our latest investments will enable us to grow this number even further.

“We want to get to a point where 100 per cent of our services are offered through direct labour, and with the birth of Coat Facilities Group Limited earlier this year, we are making gradual steps to making this a reality with investment in our people, additional recruitment and with our in-house software.

“To mark the birth of Coat Facilities Group Limited, a drive to bring all of our service lines under one roof and our vision to be the UK’s leading direct labour FM Group, we have also refreshed the Diamond Facilities Support branding and have incorporated the strap line ‘brilliance through direct labour’ on our digital, web, social media and van livery to reflect our strong presence in the industry and what makes us unique.”

GREENE KING

Jet Through wins Greene King contract

Leading drainage and plumbing firm, Jet Through, has made a successful bid to service one of the UK’s largest pub and brewery chains, Greene King, for the next three years.

This landmark contract will see Jet Through – who are headquartered at Birmingham Business Park – providing reactive drainage works to 445 sites across north west England, north Wales and the Midlands, underscoring the company’s continued growth and expanding client portfolio.

Luke Yates, Associate Director at Jet Through, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: “This agreement with Greene King further underlines our ability to efficiently maintain drainage networks and plumbing infrastructure at a high volume of sites.

“Our reputation for delivering consistently high service levels, thanks to our in-house engineers, has positioned us as a trusted partner for large-scale projects.”

With Greene King operating over 2,500 pubs, restaurants, and hotels across its managed and tenanted estate, the partnership presents significant opportunities for Jet Through to expand its presence in the future.

Luke added: “Deals such as this one have an instrumental role to play in our long-term growth – both in terms of turnover and recruitment. Our focus now is on bolstering our presence across the private and public sectors.”

Jet Through, established in 2018, boasts a diverse client base featuring more than 30 well-known brands, including Boots and Gym Group. The company specialises in cleaning, unblocking, jetting, and repairing drainage systems on commercial and residential properties, along with providing specialist cleaning services for gutters, sewers, walls, and floors.

GREEN DRAIN

Jet Through partners with Green Drain Europe

One of the UK’s leading drainage firms has agreed a partnership to install a revolutionary new drainage product that is paving the way for healthier indoor settings.

Jet Through, which is headquartered at Birmingham Business Park, has reached an agreement with Green Drain Europe to install their innovative floor drain trap seal product across the UK.

The floor drain trap seal allows for the flow of water but blocks harmful gases including methane, chlorine and hydrogen sulfide – as well as other odours and pests – from emerging from pipes into the atmosphere.

The floor drain trap seal – which is available in five different sizes – features a UV resistant frame combined with four sealing flanges that fit across older and modern openings.

The product – which was initially launched in the USA in 2021 – is set to be installed by Jet Through engineers in various UK-based healthcare settings, as well as in factories, hotels, restaurants and retail.

Luke Yates is Associate Director at Jet Through, whose services include the cleaning, unblocking, jetting and repair of drainage systems on commercial and residential properties.

He said: “Our growth as a business has been built on helping to prevent problems rather than providing quick fixes, and our partnership with Green Drain underlines this.

“Partnering with Green Drain Europe is a great vote of confidence in our expertise and reach, and will see us rolling the product out in various industries over the coming months.

“The product also has great long-term eco credentials too, as the drain is self-cleaning and prevents the back flow of water and wastage, therefore removing the need to use traditional chemicals to clean drainage systems.

“Being able to roll-out facilities management products that have long-term benefits for various industries – such as with Green Drain – sets us up for further growth over the coming months as we aim to beat this year’s annual turnover of £1.4 million.”

BUSY BEES FINAL

Drainage & plumbing firm lands nationwide deal with Busy Bees nursery chain

One of the UK’s leading drainage and plumbing firms is buzzing after landing a six-figure, three-year deal to service nationwide nursery chain, Busy Bees.

The agreement will see Jet Through, which is headquartered at Birmingham Business Park, maintaining and repairing internal and external drainage systems – along with other reactive works – at 376 Busy Bees nurseries across the UK.

It comes as Jet Through looks to trump the £1.4 million annual turnover it achieved last year and expand its existing team of engineers nationwide.

Busy Bees is the latest high-profile name to join the firm’s client roster, which also includes the likes of Trios, Diamond Facilities, Boots and Gym Group.

Luke Yates, Associate Director at Jet Through, said: “As a business we are proud of the role that we play to help keep important community organisations operating day-to-day, so we are thrilled to be working with a national brand such as Busy Bees.

“Winning this contract saw us beat off some stiff competition, and is a big vote of confidence in the direct labour model that we provide to clients.

“Many of our competitors use third parties to deliver services, but our staff are inhouse which means we are able to maintain a consistently efficient service right across the UK – while also providing fantastic personal development opportunities for our staff which helps us to attract the best of the best.

“This – along with our reputation in the sector – played a key role in helping us to secure the opportunity to work with such a well-known brand such as Busy Bees – and these types of working relationships are going to be crucial in helping us to achieve our aim of achieving a fourth consecutive year of growth in 2024.”

Purcho expands into 3,000 sq ft warehouse

A distributor of cleaning and workplace essentials has relocated to a 3,000 sq ft warehouse in Warwickshire to accommodate increasing demand across the country.

Purcho has moved into Unit 15 at Arden Business Centre in Alcester on a five-year lease where it will occupy the ground floor – with the ability to double in size to 6,000 sq ft on the upper floor.

This move comes just three years after launching as a digital marketplace specialising in workplace essentials, ranging from cleaning and janitorial products, pantry essentials, office stationery supplies, toilet supplies, health and safety (PPE) and computer cleaning supplies.

The warehouse will be used to help fulfil next-day delivery orders on 1,300 products to more than 700 customers the business already has, which includes cleaning businesses and other organisations across a range of sectors.

Purcho is part of the Diamond Facilities Support Group, which is one of the UK’s fastest growing facilities management businesses in the UK with an annual turnover of £15 million.
Purcho was initially founded as Health and Hygiene Products in 2021, but has recently undergone a re-brand to signify the business’s long-term growth plans.

Vivek Sylva is in charge of the day-to-day operations at Purcho.

He said: “We are in total control of our pricing as we are not tied to any buying groups, which has enabled us to provide great value while helping our customers’ margins – which undoubtedly drives our growth.

“Over 60 per cent of our 20,000 orders to date have originated from mobile devices, a trend that is expected to escalate, and this surge in online demand has prompted both the relocation of our warehouse and the decision to rebrand.

“The centrally located spacious warehouse also enables us to fulfil a greater number of nationwide orders within a 24-hour timeframe.

“Being affiliated with a company as large as Diamond Facilities Group provides additional benefits, allowing us to cross-sell to the Group’s established client base, alongside our own. This, coupled with the new warehouse, will play a pivotal role in our ongoing growth, which is evident in our increasing turnover year after year.”

Diamond Facilities Support targeting South West growth after bumper year in region

Diamond Facilities Support is gearing up to unlock further growth in the South West with new appointments following a bumper year in the region.

Diamond, which has an annual turnover of £15m, has recruited five field-based engineers in the South West in the past year – and is planning to recruit a further five more this year – to meet rising demand from hospitality, retail, medical and logistic businesses with multiple sites across the area – ranging from Land’s End to Bristol.

Last year marked the third consecutive year of growth in the South West as the number of jobs the firm was called out to increased by around 15 per cent year-on-year – which is being driven by Diamond’s multi-skilled engineers in the region providing an alternative to the sub-contract model many of Diamond’s competitors use, according to the firm’s chief executive Adam Atkins.

He said: “Businesses in the South West using national facilities management companies have traditionally had to rely on engineers from different third-party companies for emergency responses and scheduled maintenance, which only breeds unreliability and inconsistency, and our ability to tear up this rule book by offering a complete in-house offering is helping to drive our growth in the region.

“Historically FM firms that cover the South West have struggled to recruit enough suitable, multi-skilled candidates, which has contributed to this long running problem, however, our company’s nationwide growth has been built on recruiting, training and developing our own engineers – which is what we are now doing in this region.

“We had a great year last year by recruiting an additional five of our own engineers who are now actively operating as part of an eight-person team throughout the South West, from Land’s End right through to Bristol – and we are now on the search for even more this year.

“The majority of our client demand in the South West stems from emergency call-outs, compliance and project works across plumbing, gas, roofing, air conditioning and building fabric – and to be able to provide this variety of skillsets all under one roof is really helping to set us apart.

“We have built up strong working relationships with some big names in the area, including Youngs Breweries, Alliance Medical and HFT to name a few, all of which are crucial in helping us to drive further growth via referrals.”
